The Colorado Data Sharing Network (CDSN) project developed and maintained by the Colorado Water Quality Monitoring Council serves as a state-wide water quality data management system to benefit the State of Colorado's Non-Point Source program participants and all water data users and generators within the state.

The CDSN project has utilized a STORET database that was distributed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This database was decommissioned by the EPA on September 30, 2009. Gold Systems has been hosting the STORET database and data management and analysis tools for CDSN for the past several years. Gold Systems has been retained to migrate the existing STORET database to a WQX based database and application. All of the data housed in the CDSN STORET database is being migrated to the WQX compatible application and database, known as the Ambient Water Quality Monitoring System (AWQMS). Gold Systems will host the existing portal to the STORET data warehouse and the new AWQMS hosted environment for CDSN after the transition is completed.

The Database Transition started August 3rd. As of September 30th all of the data related to the CDSN project has been fully migrated to the new AWQMS. All of the CDSN participating organizations will keep the same login (username and password) information as was used previously, unless otherwise requested, such as with SPCURE organizations. Gold Systems will keep the STORET hosted environment available for use (except for WebSIM) during the transition so that each organization can verify that the data migration was successful. (WebSIM was the old tool used by data providers to submit data to the hosted STORET database).

What CDSN data providers need to do:

There are two important points to note for all participating organizations:

The Project, Station (Monitoring Location), Activities and Results data will be migrated into the AWQMS database. However, the import configurations that existed in WebSIM under the STORET hosted environment will not be converted. Gold Systems will provide some basic templates to assist the data providers. The project coordinators (Jeff Litteral and Lynn Padgett) will be available to help organizations with the new system. Old import configurations and the old STORET database are no longer available.

It is the responsibility of each organization to review the migrated data for correctness quickly after their organization's data has been migrated.

Please make a cash donation today! The cost of the transition is now over $11,000. The project is in need of additional funds to cover the labor costs of this transition and costs for our Coordinators to provide demonstrations, assistance and training, and for creating requested CDSN-customized tutorials, checklists, documentation, templates, and import configurations.
