Current Data Call:
Issued To - All Colorado Water Quality Data Generators
July 1, 2009
The Colorado Data Sharing Network (CDSN) is utilizing the CDPHE’s Water Quality Control Division’s (WQCD) data call as a timely request to upload data to the CDSN at the same time. The data should already be in STORET format for the 303d listing request and could be uploaded to the CDSN easily since the formats are identical. The use of the data by the WQCD would allow for better decision-making during the listing analysis process by possibly filling in data gaps.
The benefit of simultaneously uploading data to the CDSN includes having more of the state’s water quality data available to all users and accessible to the general public. The linkage of the data to our current online interactive map allows users to search for station data in a specified area of interest. It is also a valuable networking opportunity for your organization. Plans are underway for a greatly enhanced web-based map with much greater capabilities.
If you are submitting data for the WQCD and would need assistance uploading your data into the Colorado Data Sharing Network please feel free to contact the project coordinators at the contact info provided in this email. We can also provide mentoring assistance to get your data into the format required by WQCD.
Another reason for uploading data in the near future is that the EPA’s support for STORET is expiring in September. The CDSN is gearing up to transition to the new Water Quality Exchange (WQX) network through a system called Ambient Water Quality Monitoring System (AWQMS) in early August, ahead of the STORET expiration. While the data input format is not expected to change drastically and the upload process is planned to be improved and more user friendly, there may be some benefit to uploading current data through the current WebSim portal.
For those interested in checking out the new database and data managment system please visit our WQX & AWQMS pages.
Please find below a cover letter explaining our project and data request, as well as a copy of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s data request memo and data template spreadsheet.
If you have already uploaded your data into the CDSN, much thanks and please send a reply email to give us an idea of network users. If not, and you are interested or need assistance please feel free to contact us anytime.
Good luck in all your water quality data efforts!
